Praire Hill Transit was founded in 1989 by Barbara Cline. She launched Spearfish senior transportation with a single 1979 van which operated four hours per day. Over a period of time, this small scale service grew into a well established public transit system that provides public transportation for nine rural counties of South Dakota. Within the span of 30 years, they cover thousands of square miles and serve in many different districts. Cline was inducted this October into the South Dakota Transportation Hall of Honour for recognizing her services to the community as a transportation solutions provider. She is also the president of the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA). Even during the Covid 19 pandemic, the agency remained operational. Prairie hills transit has partnered with QRyde for over 12 years, QRyde provides cutting edge technology that is used by area nursing homes through a portal to schedule resident transportation, a smartphone app has also been activated.
